Italian Faenza Copper Glaze Ceramic Vase, 1950s

An Italian ceramic vase from the 1950s, signed Faenza Casa Novo, where surface and form are treated as one continuous expression.

The silhouette is full and contained—a rounded body rising into a gently narrowing neck—its proportions simple, but intentional. What defines the piece is its finish: a copper-lustre reduction glaze that shifts between deep gold and burnished bronze. Across this metallic ground, soft green circular motifs emerge, irregular and organic, as if revealed through the firing process rather than applied.

Made in the Faenza region, long associated with a tradition of experimental ceramics, the vase reflects a mid-century interest in material transformation—where glaze becomes atmosphere, and surface carries depth beyond decoration.

DIMENSIONS: 8.75"W x 9.75"D x 14.25"H

ORIGIN: Italy

PERIOD: 1950s

MATERIALS: Ceramic

CONDITION: In very good vintage condition. The copper-lustre glaze shows minor variations inherent to the firing process; in one area, the glaze appears thinner, allowing the raw clay beneath to show through slightly. Signed along the underside “Casa Novo Faenza.”
