Italian White 'Cetra' Pendant by Vico Magistretti for Artemide, 1960s

$2,200.00

An Italian ‘Cetra’ pendant light designed by Vico Magistretti for Artemide in the 1960s. Rendered in white lacquered metal, the form is composed of a slender vertical stem supporting two offset, gently curved shades. The geometry is precise and architectural, while the finish carries a soft patina developed over time.

When illuminated, the layered metal shades temper the glow, casting an even, atmospheric light. Well suited for dining areas, kitchens, or living spaces, offering a timeless expression of Italian modernism with clarity and purpose.

Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was one of Italy’s most influential modern designers and architects, known for his ability to combine rigorous simplicity with quiet elegance. Trained as an architect in Milan, he emerged in the postwar period as a leading voice in Italian design, working seamlessly across architecture, furniture, and industrial production.

Magistretti’s work is defined by clarity of form, intelligent use of materials, and a deep respect for function, often achieving iconic results with disarming ease. His collaborations with manufacturers such as Cassina, Artemide, and Oluce produced enduring designs like the Maralunga sofa and the Atollo lamp, now considered classics of 20th-century design.

Through both his practice and his long teaching career, Magistretti helped shape a humane, thoughtful approach to modern living that continues to resonate today.
