Pierre Saint-Sorny, Gouache Mixed Media Painting No. 01, 20th Century

$3,600.00

A Cubist painting by Belgium artist Pierre Saint-Sorny, dating to the 20th Century. This mixed media work is executed in gouache. Earthy ochres, muted blues, and deep umbers anchor the composition, while passages of gold leaf introduce a subtle radiance, catching the light and lending the surface a quiet, almost sacred glow. Saint-Sorny’s confident line work articulates the fractured geometry, balancing structure with painterly softness and tonal nuance.

Signed lower left, the piece reflects the artist’s mature exploration of Cubist language, at once contemplative and richly textured.

Pierre Saint-Sorny trained first at the Royal Academy in Brussels (1932–1933), continuing at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Mons (1934–1935), where he was awarded the Grand Prize for Design. After the war, he resumed his studies at the Académie de Namur, earning the Sculpture Prize in 1946. By 1950, he had relocated to Paris to study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, later deepening his practice at the Centre de l’Expressionisme in Flanders.

Over the course of a long and steady career, Saint-Sorny exhibited widely in both solo and group presentations, including at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris. He was also invited to serve on the jury at the Académie de Namur—a reflection of his standing within the Belgian and French artistic circles of his time.
