Vintage French Gilt-Iron + Soapstone Top Coffee Table
A 20th-century French coffee table with a hand-hammered gilt iron base and custom-fabricated soapstone top.
The silhouette is clean and understated—a round top suspended above a delicate iron frame with softly curved legs and a circular stretcher below. The gilt finish has mellowed beautifully over time, with a warm patina that highlights the hammered texture of the metal.
Above, the dark soapstone top adds contrast and weight. Honed to a smooth matte finish, its surface reveals subtle tonal variation and natural veining, giving the piece depth without distracting from its simplicity.
The balance here is especially good: light and airy in form, but grounded by the richness of its materials. A versatile piece for a living room, reading corner, or intimate seating area.
